Tips For An Instant Green Change To Your Lifestyle

by Nick

Contemplating making some green changes to your lifestyle and therefore helping the environment? We may like the idea of saving money, but here are some tips that could save you money, maybe improve your health and be green friendly at the same time.

Bought new eye-glasses – What can you do with your outdated pair?

You may have a new prescription and your old glasses are no longer any use, or you just decided to buy a new pair; your old glasses can help many people around the world. With almost 87% of the world’s visually impaired living in under or developing countries, this tiny act can make a big difference their lives. Just by recycling one pair of eye-glasses you have helped improve someones life dramatically. While donating glasses is not going to make a big shift to pollution, it certainly makes you feel good to know you are helping.

Collect the rain water in a container

Why use water from in the house, which you are charged for, when there is a natural and free resource outdoors – the rain! You don’t need to go to the expense of buying a barrel, although there are loads of different types in the shops, when you can make your own.

Hang clothing to dry in the outdoors

Lots of our parents didn’t have this kind of technology, as a result had no choice but to dry clothing the natural way. By drying your clothing outside you save cash on your electric bills as well as taking care of the environment. Do not worry; it will not hurt your social status. Being enviornmentally friendly is in – do not feel apologetic, feel pleased instead!

Have a bath less, shower instead

Heating water consumes a lot of energy, costs a lot of cash, and too much bathing or prolonged showering can cause health problems, too! Chlorinated water is okay to drink, but when you breathe the chlorine from the hot shower steam, you inhale chlorine in relatively high concentrations which are a risk to your health. In addition a good thing to do is to use an attachment on your shower that cuts down the amount of water used.

Share transport with some work mates

Car sharing has been a well-known topic for a number of years, also heavily promoted by the authorities. Unfortunately, as a Toronto condos realtor I have to drive a lot. Look at an average car driver, they commute about 100 km a week and approximately 5000 km a year. By teaming up with a work mate you could save approximately 170 litres of fuel a year which is a lot of cash and it protects the environment by lowering carbon dioxide by around 400kg over the same period. If you’re not participating in a car sharing scheme run by your firm, take the time to organize your friends or colleagues with similar commuting habits and save money, have a chat with your driver or passengers and protect the environment.
